If you’re thinking about buying a property in the Riviera Maya, make sure you get the service you need. Read this blog post for information about buying a property. Demand these 3 things from your agent…
If you’re hoping to buy a vacation home in Playa del Carmen or Tulum, you might want to consider how you would navigate the hundreds of developments under construction, never mind already built, without an agent. An agent provides many different benefits and services and they should be focused on serving you and help you.
So, buying land, a condo, a house?
Demand these 3 things from your agent in Playa del Carmen, Tulum and area. (And if you don’t get them, find another agent who can help you).
1. Ask for their track record
Find out how good your agent will be in representing you. See if they can provide you with testimonials and success stories, or some other kind of indicator of how well they represent you. Remember, they should be able to find you plenty of properties to look at and then negotiate well on your behalf.
2. The agent should want to get to know YOU, and LISTEN to you, otherwise how can they really know what might be great for you and YOUR FAMILY.
An agent wants to get you into a property as soon as they can. Although they want you to be happy, of course, they also want to minimize how long they take to work with you. Demand that they spend all the time you need.
The best way an agent can help you, is to know how you plan to use your property. A condo that might be great for living, might make a terrible rental property or vice versa. Someone who loves to golf, might prefer to be in a home on the golf course rather than in this “I have a great ocean front opportunity for you to see” property the AGENT wants to sell. Or if you LIVE to snorkel and dive, why is the agent so insistent on showing me a property downtown?? The agent has to listen, but you also have to be willing to share, to ALLOW them to help you.
It’s important you are comfortable with your agent, to really be honest and let them know why you want a property in paradise. Even the best agents are not mind readers. A good agent will want to check all of your boxes.
3. Ask to drive around the neighborhood
Or are there any other neighborhoods they could recommend for you? Agents can often be focused on properties and they forget all the other reasons you want to buy here. For example, you might want to know that there is great fishing or golf nearby; or maybe you’re moving and need a good school for your children; so, ask your agent to show you a property and then drive around the neighborhood to view what the neighborhood is like. Both pieces of information are essential for you to make an informed decision.
Summary
Agents are not all the same. Some will do more for you and some will do less. But if you want an agent to serve you, make sure you know ahead of time what you want and ask the agent if they’ll do it.
